Short Term Disability

Overview

It is often difficult for one to envision being disabled in the future. The word "disability" often conjures up thoughts of serious injury and bodily harm. Yet, there are times in life when it is necessary to be out of work beyond most companies' standard vacation or sick leave policies, for example - maternity leave.

If your employees were injured or got sick and were unable to work, they would still need some form of income. Short Term Disability (STD) protects members against short-term loss of income due to injury or illness.

The Council's Employee Benefits Group offers a competitively priced Short Term Disability (STD) program at low, affordable group rates with flexible benefit options. In addition, our Short Term Disability plans are designed to complement our Long Term Disability programs. For example, a 13-week duration period under the Short Term Disability plan matches up with the 90-day elimination period under the Long Term Disability program.

Features of the Group Short Term Disability Insurance program include:

  • Contract provisions that provide return-to work incentives
  • Telephonic claims process available
  • Easy integration with LTD, FMLA Administration and WC programs
  • Various funding arrangements (salary continuation and Administrative Only Services
  • First Day Hospital Coverage available

BASE-Plan (for companies with 1-9 employees)

With this STD plan, small businesses get all the advantages of large group coverage without many of the restrictions that usually come with the small group plans. The BASE-Plan program provides the right coverage at the right price.
